Exhuming Scoop Jackson:
A Democrat With a Spine
The left does not need to surrender masculinity, patriotism, or national defense to creeps, cranks, and reactionary influencers.
There is a void in American politics where a certain kind of liberal man used to stand: patriotic without being stupid, tough without being cruel, pro-labor without being anti-American, and serious about national defense without worshiping war.
That void has been filled by some of the worst people in the room. Groypers. Incels. Manosphere grifters. Fake alphas with podcast microphones and wounded egos. Men who think masculinity means hating women, humiliating the weak, cosplaying civil war, or treating every disagreement as proof of betrayal.
It is time to exhume Scoop Jackson — not as nostalgia, not as a museum exhibit, and not as a blank check for every Pentagon fever dream. Exhume him as a useful argument: the left can believe in strength. The left can believe in America. The left can believe in democratic power without becoming either imperialist or ashamed of itself.

A 2026 Scoop Jackson Democrat is not a neocon in vintage liberal clothing. He is not looking for another Iraq. He is not nostalgic for think-tank arrogance, contractor wars, or elite foreign policy people who never seem to pay personally for being wrong.
He is a liberal patriot. He believes democratic societies are worth defending. He believes labor matters, public institutions matter, alliances matter, and authoritarian states are not misunderstood therapy patients. He knows that fascists, theocrats, kleptocrats, and warlords do not become harmless because someone on the internet called them “anti-imperialist.”
He also knows that power without restraint turns rotten. Having a flag on your shoulder does not make every bombing wise. Having enemies does not make every civilian death acceptable. Having a good cause does not excuse corruption, cruelty, or collective punishment.

- Pro-Israel’s existence, not pro-Likud impunity
- Pro-Palestinian dignity, not pro-Hamas fantasy
- Pro-masculinity, not pro-misogyny

Israel policy is where everyone wants you to pick a stupid team and repeat the slogans. No thanks.
Israel’s creation was not clean. It involved displacement, fear, violence, and historical injustice that did not vanish because later generations got tired of hearing about it. Palestinians are not a public relations problem. They are a people. Their dignity is not conditional on whether Western audiences find their representatives convenient.
That does not mean Israel is going away. It does not mean Israeli civilians deserve terror. It does not excuse Hamas, romanticize October 7, or turn theocratic murderers into liberation icons because they fight people we dislike.
It also does not excuse Likud, permanent occupation, settler extremism, or the destruction of Gaza as if civilian suffering were just background noise. “Human shields” is not a magic phrase that cancels moral responsibility. Democratic states do not get to preserve their soul by outsourcing every ugly consequence to the enemy.
Israel exists. Palestinians exist. Hamas is vile. Likud has been catastrophic. Civilian life matters. Anyone who cannot hold all five thoughts at once is not serious enough for the conversation.
This politics rejects the fake alpha garbage that has colonized too much of the masculine internet. There is nothing macho about hating women. There is nothing strong about being entitled to sex, attention, admiration, or obedience. A man who cannot hear “no” without rage is not dominant. He is fragile.
It also rejects the opposite failure: a liberal culture so terrified of masculine symbols that it hands them over to the worst men alive. Guns are not automatically fascist. Trucks are not policy statements. Beer is not a hate crime. Working out, hunting, wrenching on engines, serving in uniform, or liking rough humor does not make a man a reactionary.
The problem is not masculinity. The problem is resentment dressed up as masculinity. The problem is cruelty marketed as confidence. The problem is insecure men turning their private humiliation into a public ideology.
You can keep the testosterone. Drop the coercion, the grievance, and the woman-hating bullshit.
Veterans know the difference between force and discipline. At least the honest ones do. A rifle is not a personality. A uniform is not a moral waiver. Courage is not the same thing as aggression. Brotherhood is not a license to cover for dirtbags.
A serious liberal patriotism should sound familiar to anyone who has lived inside institutions that actually matter. You do the job. You watch your people. You take responsibility. You do not abandon standards because the other side is worse. You do not mistake cynicism for wisdom. You do not confuse cruelty with toughness.
That is the masculine lane the left abandoned too easily: competence, service, loyalty, discipline, accountability, and moral seriousness. Not therapy-speak. Not influencer rage. Not pretending that every hard thing can be solved by being nice. Actual adulthood.

Exhuming Scoop Jackson does not mean copying his politics whole. The world changed. The Cold War ended. Iraq happened. Afghanistan happened. Gaza happened. The old foreign policy establishment lost the right to be trusted automatically.
But the need he represented did not disappear. Democrats still need a language of strength that is not borrowed from Republicans. Liberals still need a way to talk about patriotism without apologizing for the word. Men still need a model of masculinity that does not require hating women, worshiping domination, or turning every insecurity into a YouTube channel.
The 2026 version is not a hawk for hawkery’s sake. He is a democratic realist. He supports Ukraine because borders matter. He supports NATO because alliances matter. He opposes authoritarian expansion because free societies are not self-defending. He supports labor because patriotism without working people is just branding. He supports equal rights because democracy that excludes people is not democracy. He supports responsible gun ownership and despises intimidation cosplay. He likes trucks, beer, and a decent bar fight story, but he knows the difference between a man and a bully.
The left does not need to become soft to be decent. It does not need to become cruel to be strong. A 2026 Scoop Jackson Democrat is patriotic, pro-labor, anti-authoritarian, morally serious, and allergic to bullshit — foreign and domestic.
