Confirmation bias is the tendency to seek out, interpret, and remember information in a way that confirms our existing beliefs, while ignoring or dismissing evidence that contradicts them. It’s a powerful psychological force that can warp our judgment and lead us to double down on misinformation, even when the facts are clear. I recently spoke about the dangers of confirmation bias—how it can poison public debate, undermine science, and, in the worst cases, put lives at risk. This issue is front and center right now as we watch political leaders and so-called experts twist data to fit their own agendas, instead of following where the evidence actually leads.
Under Trump and RFK Jr., the Department of Health and Human Services is going off the rails. They’re floating the idea of an autism registry—yeah, a government list of autistic people. That’s not just creepy, it’s dangerous. It’s a setup for privacy violations, discrimination, and God knows what else. If you think the Trump administration has your best interests at heart here, you are sorely mistaken.
But it gets even worse. They’ve put David Geier in charge of a new federal study on vaccines and autism. Who the hell is David Geier? Not a doctor, for starters. He actually got busted in Maryland for pretending to be one. The guy’s only qualification is a bachelor’s degree, and he spent years working with his dad (who lost his own medical license in multiple states) pushing bogus, harmful autism “treatments”—stuff like chemical castration drugs and chelation therapy. That’s not medicine, that’s snake oil.
The Geiers are notorious for cranking out junk science claiming vaccines cause autism. Their so-called “studies” have been ripped apart by real experts for being sloppy, misleading, and flat-out wrong. Most of their work has been thrown in the trash where it belongs. Yet here we are, with David Geier running the show for a government study. Why? Because this administration wants to rig the results. They want to “prove” vaccines cause autism, even though mountains of real research say it’s all bullshit.
Let’s be blunt: this isn’t about helping autistic people or protecting kids. It’s about pushing an anti-vaccine agenda that’s already getting people hurt. Measles is making a comeback in Texas and other states, and it’s only going to get worse if parents keep getting scared off by this nonsense.
Putting David Geier in charge of anything related to autism or vaccines is a sick joke. It’s a slap in the face to every family dealing with autism, and it’s a giant leap backwards for science and public health. We deserve better than this circus.
