Oppose S.4925 & H.R.7661
The "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act"

Two companion bills are moving through Congress that would strip federal K-12 funding from any school program, activity, or library material a school cannot certify as free of "sexually oriented" content under a broad, vague standard. Critics across library and LGBTQ advocacy groups argue the bills are written to pressure schools into self-censoring anything that affirms transgender students or includes LGBTQ representation, rather than to address any real gap in existing law.

S. 4925 — Senate

Introduced June 24, 2026 by Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN), with Sens. Lankford (R-OK) and Tuberville (R-AL). Sitting in the Senate HELP Committee.

H.R. 7661 — House

Introduced by Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL). Already reported out of committee and placed on the Union Calendar (No. 632) — it's now awaiting a full House floor vote.

Note: because H.R.7661 has already cleared committee and is awaiting a floor vote, the House button below points to the official house.gov lookup tool so you can find and contact your own Representative directly, since that's who decides the vote now.

My name is [Your Name]. I'm a registered [Your State] voter. I'm writing to ask you to oppose S.4925, the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act." The bill seeks to amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to prohibit federal funds from being used to provide "sexually oriented material" to children in K-12 schools. The bill is overly broad, vague, and its censorship specifically targets LGBTQ+ representation in schools. The legislation could create a chilling effect on school libraries, causing them to self-censor by avoiding any content that affirms transgender students or topics to keep from losing federal funding. The bill could also restrict student-led organizations, such as Gender and Sexuality Alliances. In our school, campus, and public libraries, materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. Their work is grounded in one clear purpose: helping young people become lifelong readers. S.4925 isn't about protecting kids. It's about giving politicians broad authority to restrict whose stories are allowed on our shelves. That should concern anyone who believes in the freedom to read and the right of families to make decisions for themselves. Please oppose S.4925, the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act." Thank you, [Your Name] [Your Address/email address]

Sample Script — House (H.R.7661)

My name is [Your Name]. I'm a constituent in [Your District/State]. I'm writing to ask you to vote NO on H.R.7661, the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act," when it reaches the floor. Like its Senate companion, S.4925, this bill amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to cut off federal funds from any school program or material that cannot be certified free of "sexually oriented" content, a standard broad enough to sweep in LGBTQ-inclusive books and support programs alongside anything genuinely inappropriate. The bill has already cleared the House Education and Workforce Committee and is on the Union Calendar awaiting a floor vote, so my Representative's vote is the decision point now. Materials in our school and public libraries are chosen by trained literacy professionals, not politicians, and that selection process already accounts for age-appropriateness and community standards. H.R.7661 would push schools toward blanket self-censorship rather than case-by-case judgment, out of fear of losing funding. Please vote NO on H.R.7661. Thank you, [Your Name] [Your Address/email address]
